Opener Not Working? Try one of these solutions first! â€‹

1. Is the Performax™ Garage wall button illuminated (Wall button must be Performax™ Garage Brand). Wall button must be illuminated for opener to work properly. Check for proper installation of Performax™ Garage wiring and the connection to the back of the Peformax Opener®. Refer to Page 19.
2. Is the Performax™ Garage brand wall button installed using Performax brand wiring? Refer to Page 19. (All other brands of wall buttons are not compatible with Performax™ Garage products. Only the Performax™ Garage wall button and wiring will work with the Performax opener)

Garage Door Opener Troubleshooting

Use the sections below to diagnose and resolve common garage door opener issues. Reference page numbers correspond to the owner’s manual.

Opener Has Power but Nothing Happens

Possible Causes and Solutions •Verify photo eyes are connected and illuminated (page 14) •Travel and force have not been programmed (pages 16–18) •Wall button may be wired incorrectly •Check electrical outlet and circuit breaker

Trolley Shaft Hits the Pulley

Possible Causes & Solutions •Opener not installed using screwdriver setting; trolley too close to door when closed (page 6, figure 2) •Travel or force requires adjustment (pages 16–18) •Chain or belt tension is incorrect

Door Moves in the Wrong Direction

Door moves up when pressing DOWN (or vice versa) •Chain or cable installed on the wrong side of the rail (pages 5–6)

Door Opens but Will Not Close

Possible Causes & Solutions •Photo eyes not aligned properly (page 15) •Photo eye wiring installed incorrectly (page 14)

Door Closes When Photo Beam Is Blocked

Possible Causes & Solutions •Belt installed on the wrong side of the rail (page 6)

Door Moves in a Jerking Motion or Belt Slips

Possible Causes & Solutions •Belt tension needs adjustment (page 7) Note: 1/4" may not be sufficient depending on door size, type, and spring tension •Obstruction in the rail or a door roller issue

Rail Bends Upward When Door Closes

Possible Causes & Solutions •Garage door arm angle is too vertical and trolley is too close to pulley (page 11, figure 1)

Opener Beeps and Will Not Close

Possible Causes & Solutions •Photo eyes may be obstructed, misaligned, or improperly installed (pages 14–15)

Opener Does Not Respond to Remote

Possible Causes & Solutions •Reprogram the remote (page 21) •Replace remote batteries (page 21)

Opener Stops Before Fully Opening or Closing

Possible Causes & Solutions •Travel limits are not properly adjusted (pages 16–18) •Always perform the safety reverse test after adjustments

Door Reverses Unexpectedly

Possible Causes & Solutions •Ensure photo eyes are aligned and unobstructed •Check door balance (page 4) •Readjust travel limits and force (pages 16–18)

Door Reverses When Touching the Floor

Symptoms •Courtesy light flashes Solution •Reset travel limits and travel force (pages 16–18)

Photo Eye Indicator Flashes and Door Will Not Close

Possible Causes & Solutions •Photo eye safety system is misaligned or obstructed (page 15)

Courtesy Light Does Not Turn On

Possible Causes & Solutions •Replace light bulb (A19 incandescent, max 100W)

Opener Hums and Trolley Hits Stop Bolt During Open Travel

Step-by-Step Solution 1.Ensure trolley is positioned toward the stop bolt 2.Disconnect trolley using emergency release 3.Close the door manually 4.Loosen belt/chain tension (shaft linker and flange nut) 5.Run opener so trolley shaft moves toward door (trolley disconnected) 6.Decrease UP travel limit (page 16) 7.Retighten belt to 1/4" (6mm) above rail base (page 7) 8.Repeat if necessary

Remote or Wireless Keypad Will Not Program
